Second International Conference on Architecture and Urban Design (ICAUD) was organized by the Department of Architecture of Epoka University and took place on 8 – 10 May, 2014 in Tirana, Albania. The conference covered a wide range of topics on architecture and urban design including the Architectural History and Historic Preservation, Architectural and Landscape Design, Urban/Building Physics and Technology, Urban Planning and Design, Architecture & Urban Design Education and Industry and Practice in Albanian context. At 2-ICAUD the international audience of academics and practitioners from around the world was gathered. The 2-ICAUD provided an international forum for knowledge exchange where 143 scientific papers and posters were presented by academics from 15 different countries. The majority of the papers were submitted at the field of Architectural History and Historic Preservation.
The honored academicians were invited as keynote speakers, including Prof. Dr. Ardeshir Mahdavi from Technical University of Vienna, Austria, Prof. Dr. Bernard O'Kane from the American University of Cairo, Egypt and Hermann Knoflacher from Vienna University of Technology. The opening ceremony was held in Sheraton Hotel in Tirana and honored by the welcoming speeches of the Minister of Urban Development and Tourism, Ms. Eglantina Gjermeni and the Chairman of Albanian Architects Association, Professor Maksim Mitrojorgji. Within the framework of the conference there were organized excursions to Berat, Rodopi Cape, Petrela Castle and Tirana.

Department of Architecture 2nd Year Students within the framework of History of Art and Architecture II course visited the most important historical monument of Tirana-Et-hem Beg Mosque under supervision of professor Edmond Manahasa. This course includes developments in history of architecture starting from Early Christian to Neo Classic period. The students had the possibility to observe the architectural and artistic values of the building, which reflects of Ottoman-Baroque blended with local Albanian features.
Department of Architecture 2nd Year Students within the framework of History of Art and Architecture II course, under the supervisorship of Mr. Edmond Manahasa were required to prepare models of Medieval Period Buildings existent in Albania. This course includes developments in history of architecture starting from Early Christian to 19th century period. The aim of this work was to make students able comprehend the medieval period monuments and their compositional and morphologic nature. Department of Architecture 2nd Year Students within the framework of History of Art and Architecture I course, under the supervisorship of Mr. Edmond Manahasa were required to prepare models of Classical Antiquity Monuments. This course includes developments in history of architecture starting from Prehistory to Greco-Roman Classical Antiquity period. The aim of this work was to make students able comprehend the medieval period monuments and their compositional and morphologic nature. The exhibition was held in the hall of department of architecture.
Workshop: Modeling with SketchUp
The second year architecture students were given the chance to participate the SketchUp training workshop. The workshop was to be held weekly divided in nine different sessions, from November to January. The aim of the workshop was to provide students with practical information on the usage of SketchUp modeling software for Architectural design purpose.
Workshop: Preparing architectural Collages/Montages with Photoshop
The one-day workshop during which the students got to deal with image editing with Adobe Photoshop to create collages and montages, was organized in the framework of the Landscape Design course, to help the students make a step forward in terms of drawing techniques. Prior to beginning with the practical part of the workshop, the students were briefed on general definitions related to digital images and on the tools needed for preparing the collages and montages. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the second year students with the techniques of digital collages and montages, and to show how these techniques may contribute to the proper presentation of mainly landscape but also architectural,projects.
