ARCH306 Architecture and City
Course Description:
Architecture and City’ course is about the examination of the physical and social form of cities and their architecture. Cities achieve form over time; their temporal attributes are stressed throughout the course, while the course is not a systematic account of the history of cities; it focuses rather on the theories, both normative and functional, that have motivated and still inform the construction of cities. This course is an introduction to the roles that the disciplines of architecture and urban design play in shaping our understanding and use of emerging 21st century urban environment –thus the city.
What is specific about the course is that it uses the local context: two major Albanian cities, Tirana and Durrës and their in-between agglomeration, as the laboratory of survey and research, in combination with the theory reading.
